New Lodge has been the scene of many horror shows since it opened in 1970 — most of them on the pitch — but a number of after‑hours reports suggest the ground has produced a few off‑pitch disturbances as well. Several people who have been at the stadium late in the evening have described unexplained noises around the clubhouse and the pitch, including bangs, whistles, whispers and footsteps when the site was otherwise empty.

One report came from someone who was in the media suite during the evening. He heard clear footsteps coming up the internal staircase leading to the VIP area above the clubhouse. The footsteps were described as distinct and approaching the landing, but when he checked the upper level, no one was present.

Other accounts involve general activity around the pitch after dark. Individuals returning from away matches have heard movement, voices and other noises in areas where no staff or players were expected to be. These incidents occurred after closing, when the ground was locked and the buildings were not in use.

Although no apparition or recurring figure has ever been identified, the pattern of unexplained footsteps and late‑night noises has made New Lodge one of the few sports venues in the borough with repeated reports of ghost‑related activity.
