On 30th January 1891 in Bowers Gifford, Reverend Matthew Frost was sitting at tea with his wife when he heard a distinct rap at the window behind him. Without thinking, he looked and said to his wife, “Why, there’s my grandmother!” He went to the door, but saw no one. Thinking it was a joke, he searched around the house, but found nothing.
The following Saturday, he received the shocking news that his grandmother had died in Yorkshire at the exact time he had heard the rapping. He hadn't even known she was ill. The mysterious rap at the window was her final, ghostly farewell.
