A chilling tale is told of a 17th-century house that once stood on the site of Billericay's Post Office. Known for its projecting upper storey and its dark, gloomy interior, the building was said to be haunted by a young lady in white.

 

With its low ceilings and an eerie staircase leading to the attics, the house was so unsettling that it was easy to believe a spirit resided within.
