St. Michael's on Pitsea Mount is rumoured to be a place of chilling legends. It is said that if you run around the church three times, backward, you might catch a glimpse of a ghostly monk who hanged himself on the mount, or perhaps a headless nun.

Adding to the Mount's eerie reputation, a group of youths in the late 1980s reported a terrifying encounter. They saw two large black dogs that mimicked each other's movements. Terrified, the children ran to higher ground to escape, only for the dogs to vanish as suddenly as they had appeared.
